Video Series on HOMESCHOOLING FOR BEGINNERS

I am excited to tell you about a new video series that I have been working on lately. 

It is different to my homeschooling guide: STARTING HOMESCHOOLING IN SOUTH AFRICA.

(If you have not read this guide, you can download it for FREE from my Resource Page. It covers all the aspects about staring homeschooling and hopefully answers many questions that a parent may have who is new to homeschooling.)



VIDEO SERIES

This video series, HOMESCHOOLING FOR BEGINNERS, covers aspects about LEARNING that aren't always talked about but are very much part of homeschooling. Sometimes, we are so focused on the 3 R's (Reading, Writing & Arithmetic) that the other subtle yet crucial aspects of learning get lost, even though still relevant for teaching the 3 R's. Topics included are how to create an environment for learning, what learning looks like in the foundation phase, how to allow for different aspects of learning and how to curate a learning route for your children.

SHARING MY VISION

I have been involved in education now for over 25 years already! It started when I was studying Social Work through Unisa (back in the 90's) and volunteered every Friday to assist the social worker/ parole officer at Wynberg Magistrate Court with Juvenile School for young offenders. It was here that I found my love for teaching! I changed my course of study to Education.... and have been teaching ever since, in some form or other.


My vision is to continue assisting parents starting out with homeschooling through practical advice in the form of homeschooling guides, videos, affordable educational resources and homeschooling tools. I also offer one-on-one consultation for those who would prefer talking to someone.


South Africa as well as the greater African continent, is very dear to my heart and I'd like to share these resources far and wide so that parents can feel confident about homeschooling their children and receive the support to do so. You can help with this too by promoting this new YouTube Channel for Homeschooling.

Before you start homeschooling - DO YOU KNOW YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING STYLE?!

Homeschooling and Different Learning Styles This is such an interesting topic and with homeschooling, we can help our children more effectively (and avoid unnecessary conflict) if we take into account our child's preferred learning style. You don't need to be an educational expert on different learning styles to be able to help your child...all it really takes is to be watchful and mindful of how your child reacts to general things and learning content. In fact, if you can remember how your child was when they were still very young, there would also be indications as to what they gravitate to naturally...long before having to learn to read and write.   In really simplistic terms, you can think of 3 categories of learning styles: a child who learns best by looking (visual); the child who learns best by hearing (auditory); and the child who learns best by doing (kinesthetic). Understanding the Foundation Phase Would you not agree with me that the pressure young children (and parents) are under in schools is at an all time high? UNIT STUDIES HOMESCHOOLING APPROACH

 If you have a good think about life and everything around us, it will be quite evident that what we see and experience is not in isolation at all. We experience life with many influences that are constantly around us.  The idea of individual school subjects may be easier to manage in some schooling situations but it isn't really a true reflection of the "real world", where  everything is connected.
